This training combines an overhead crane training and hoisting & rigging training into 1 certification course which has been developed to comply with CSA standards as well as the Alberta OHS Regulation.

Topics Covered
- Understand responsibilities and safety rules
- Pre-shift inspections
- Be able to inspect, select, maintain, and safely use equipment and hardware
- Winching, cables, chains, boomers, slings, securing loads, and the effect of the sling angle
- Understand load ratings/limits, safety factors, and other factors
- Be able to calculate material load weights
- The function of different kinds of cranes and lifting devices
- Hand signals
Training Certificate
Upon successful completion of the training program, you will receive a training certificate that is valid for 3 years issued by ABCS Safety Training.
Prerequisites
- Government issued photo ID
- Participants must be prepared with their own PPE including: hardhat, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots
- An Overhead Crane, Hoisting and Rigging Certification from any previous OSSA provider or other in-person accredited/recognized program. Online only certification do not qualify. The certificate must not be more than 180 days past the expiry date on the card.

• 72 hours’ notice (courses under $200)
• 7 days’ notice (courses over $200)
Bookings made within these notice periods are final and cannot be changed. With proper notice, we may assist with rescheduling, course upgrades, or transferring your seat to another participant.

The course covers planning for rigging operations, rigging equipment and inspection, internationally recognized hand and radio signals, hazards and controls, determining the load weight, determining the centre of gravity, rated capacity and sling angles, knots, attaching and controlling the load and overhead cranes. It includes an instructor led presentation, practical exercises, class discussion, video presentation and written knowledge test.
